May 10, 2022
In North Carolina, STEM Skool Executive Director Ge Imoudu worked with Charlotte area freelance artist and STEM Skool community partner Ebony Simpson lift up the voices and talents of middle and high school students in the region. Partnering with Cheryl Riley, principal of Victory Christian Center School (VCCS) in Charlotte, STEM Skool created an art book containing students’ artwork expressing their perspectives on STEM learning.
The book, Our STEM Stories, includes artwork produced with a variety of mediums: drawings, paintings, collages, podcasts, textiles, digital art, and photography. The book also features other STEM initiatives at VCCS, including a rocket team, math league, and vertical gardens.
This artwork was publicly exhibited at a STEAM Fest in spring 2022, which was attended by approximately 30 students and their families, friends, and other members of the community. STEM SKOOL and VCCS plan to make STEAM Fest an annual event to continue to amplify and celebrate youth STEAM stories.
